Scholarly Staff Union of Research Institutions suspends endless strike

The Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI) has suspended its endless strike.

The association reported the suspension of the strike in a letter to the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, endorsed by its Secretary General, Comrade Theophilus Ndubuaku.


The letter read: "The Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), therefore writes to illuminate you regarding our choice to suspend, with quick impact, our continuous strike called to fight the accompanying issues:


"Refusal of the regulating services, divisions and organizations (MDAs) to carry out the Conditions of Service (CoS) of Federal Research Agencies, Institutions and Colleges (CoS 19) as endorsed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF) with impact from January 1, 2019.


"Refusal of the Federal Government to pay the unpaid debts of 53.7 percent on Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS) regardless of the arrangement between Joint Research and Allied Institutions Sectors Union (JORAISU) and the Federal Government since March 7, 2018.


"Refusal by the significant organizations to work with the expansion in the retirement period of staff in Research Institutions to 65 years for non-scholastic staff and 70 years for scholarly staff as gets in the Nigerian colleges; and


"The sequential damage by government functionaries in the foundation of the National Research and Innovation Council (NRIC). "
