2023: Electoral regulation looking for deputies' renunciation doesn't exist - Akpabio
Priest of Niger Delta Affairs and official applicant, Godswill Akpabio, has pronounced that the segment of the Electoral Act as corrected which says discretionary deputies should leave prior to challenging for political positions doesn't exist.
Showing up on Channels TV's Politics Today on Thursday May 5, Akpabio said the law is non-existent on the grounds that an Abia court decided that it was illegal.
The Minister said;
"As far as segment 84(12), it talks about decisions. Assuming you wish to go into essential, you ought to attempt to leave before you go there.
"Indeed, even before Mr. President marked the bill, he had referenced that it was not in accordance with the Nigerian constitution which considers 30 days before decisions.
"Along these lines, regardless of the demonstration of parliament, regardless of the law, the constitution is better than any demonstration of parliament. Also, it was closed somewhere near a court of skillful ward some place in Umuahia. So until further notice that regulation doesn't exist."
Akpabio added that he's not made a big deal about the law in light of the fact that the constitution supercedes it. He said;
"I would have been stressed over how the allure would go yet for the constitution. It relies upon the constitution toward the day's end. It's anything but an established revision"
